Petition against same-sex benefits in Chattanooga gets enough signatures

A local conservative group has gathered enough signatures on a petition against the domestic partner benefits ordinance. The ordinance would allow same-sex partners to receive benefits from the city of Chattanooga. The Hamilton County Election Commission has verified 45 hundred signatures- that’s the minimum needed. Nearly 10,000 signatures are expected to be turned in, in all. Now the City Council has a decision to make. Either they repeal the ordinance - or the question will be put to a referendum vote in the primary election next August. Be sure to pick up a copy of tomorrow’s Times Free Press for complete details.
