Lost Alzheimer’s patient shot to death

Funeral services will be held tomorrow for a 72-year-old Alzheimer’s patient who was shot to death in North Georgia. Ronald Westbrook had been wandering around in 20 degree weather at 4 a.m. in Chickamagua when the shooting happened. He was lost and had been walking for almost four hours in the cold when he found a house with a porch light on. He rung the doorbell, and woke up 34-year-old Joe Hendrix. Authorities say Hendrix went outside with a shotgun, and despite several commands to stop, Westbrook kept walking toward him. Hendrix fired four shots, and one hit Westbrook in the chest, killing him. Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson says he has no doubts that Hendrix felt threatened during the encounter. And no charges have been filed.
