Historic bridge named one of the top public places in America

Chattanooga's Walnut Street Bridge has been named one of the top ten greatest public spaces in America. The historic bridge is the oldest and largest surviving truss bridge in the South. It opened in 1891. But the bridge was closed in the late 1970s with plans for demolition. The American Planning Association named the bridge to the new top ten list, hailing its restoration and service as a focal point for local events.
